Letter From BIG G: 2014 a sign of things to come

Hello Everyone,

First off let me thank all of you, the PINOY HIPHOP COLLECTIVE for tirelessly coming up with events and collaborations that spearhead the drive to proliferate THIS culture that we cherish and respect. From the beat heads to the Emcees, Producers, DJ's, and tempo regulators in plush studios and homely bedroom setups, graffiti and street artist that colour our music with their twang lines and strokes, B-Boys and B-Girls who continue to show by example what it is to embody ART IN MOTION; To the whole PINOY HIPHOP COLLECTIVE....great job on making 2013 as the start of the re-emergence of this hidden culture.

In reality 2013 was a train wreck waiting to happen, it almost felt like the fates decided to delay the communities rise to social consciousness with a smokescreen of corruption, a faux natural calamity, and the ever impending threat of a World War. For myself 2013 was a benchmark for future collaborations with artist, and business S.O.P'S, as the Hip-hop industry is such, sometimes the boardroom can become as brutal as the street we all struggle to traverse.

Despite all these, I'm proud to report my first hand witness accounts that Pinoy Hip-hop going through 2014 is not only thriving; it's evolving unto revolutions amongst itself.

And it is with the sincerest sentiment that I would like to apologize to you my dear readers for not being able to update you with the latest news, reviews, and previews during the last 2 years. I got caught up with some real world shit that took me down to the abyss, where I had to face, and slay my own demons.

2014 is a new chapter... and it’s time to punch in. And so I'll be doing some revisions, addendums, and updates to this pseudo-mag.; hopefully making BAGSAKAN MAGAZINE much more relevant, if not a source for the latest news, clues, the who's and the what's it's.

So here are the UPDATES: NEW TABS: SOCIAL COMMENTARY, BOMB THE CITY, and VIBE WITH THE BEAT

 SOCIAL COMMENTARY
A corner for my thoughts, this page is where you dear reader get to know a piece of me. From current affairs to advocacies, from current rants on trends or other issues that I found worth talking about and scrutinizing them on a deeper and personal level. I've met a lot of y'all and some members of the collective deserve a couple of paragraphs of scrutiny. To those that got hit by the latter comment......TAMA NA ANG PAG GAWA NG ALAMAT.

BOMB THE CITY
Of all the elements in the HIPHOP culture, Graffiti and street art I feel needs its day in the sun. It's only recently that I've had the privilege...NAY...the Pleasure of experiencing this enigmatic element of the culture, understanding the difference between graffiti and street art, at the same time conversing with some of groups responsible for making this element thrive... amidst fat bellied cops and senseless laws that mutate this ultimate visual expression of art....into a crime.

 Personally excited about this one.

VIBE WITH THE BEAT
Like to give a heart-felt shout out to the man himself, Sam Rhansum of RED ALERT ENT. For making good with his promise to create an avenue for everyone to come together and make music. This tab showcases future collaborators, sizzling hot DJ's, beat makers, loopers, arrangers, and masters of the art of making a ball busting expressive beat. TO BE HONEST AND FAIR, Battle of the Beats was a fresh and locally relevant competition to have. And Having Sam helm the battle itself adds to the production value and authenticity of the competition. All though first time joiners (like me) as well as legit money makin arrangers in the field have their reservations, IT WAS at least in my opinion a successful event overall.

There's always next year.

I'm thinking in the future if the roster becomes sizeable, might make a deck of cards ala NBA CARDS or SUPER TRUMP; with all the bells and whistles.

Should be DOPE!!!

 WAIT… THERE’S MOOORRREEEE….

Since we live in the age of the widgets, and the mobile devices… will utilize all the tech in my arsenal to bring BAGSAKAN MAGAZINE out of the past, and back to the future.

ERGO

Cam interviews, on the spot cameos of your favourite artists, phone recordings, and pretty soon… We will migrate into the .COM playing field SOON.

And so to old and new readers alike I bid you welcome to the new age… the new age of everything! My only wish is that we continue to push for this music that we love, this culture that we live our lives with. Let its core values guide us and mould the collective as a whole.

As I write the end of this letter, a smile steadily forms amidst my silky mocha face. I smile for the future of PINOY HIPHOP as its denizens…

Smile back at me.

Filipino Culture combined with the Hip-hop swagger and tenacity is an explosive combination, both are equally needed. Just like a master swords maker needs both fire and ice to craft the sharpest of blades, let us be always aware of these two components.

Continue making your music G and relevant.

Prayer is your shield… and Love is your weapon,

BIG G.
