What is the MARCH MADNESS: CULTURE CLASH?

                                                                                                      By: Mikegrape

MARCH MADNESS CULTURE CLASH is Collaborative effort from the heads of TURF ENTERTAINMENT, IDKATI PRODUCTIONS, AND MIDWEST RECORDS to proliferate the Filipino music scene as we experience it today. Creating a harmonious meld of HIP-HOP and ROCK musicality, topped with a showcase of the genre’s lifestyle culture, the event creates an atmosphere of unadulterated music and education on what drives these artists to create in their respective craft. Held at GUILLY’S A-venue, the three-day event held February 4,11, and 18, 2011  includes diverse musical performers, tattooing, bboy dance-offs, exhibits and contests for OPM aficionados and urban street preachers alike, with a spectacular collaboration performance finale.

The Birthing of MARCH MADNESS: CULTURE CLASH.
In January 30, 2010, Mike Grape, Chief Operations Officer of IDKATI productions (I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE INDUSTRY) and Paul “PIKASO” Sirate Chief Executive Officer of TURF Clothing Co. talked about creating a show that will blur the musical sensibility of a person. Create a show that not only incorporates HIP-HOP and ROCK music as the bed for the event, but also showcase the elements that help an artist develop their craft. The idea was presented to the other members of the group and received overwhelming positive response. This will be the first serving of what will become a textbook example of a DYNAMIC EVENT, a musical event with different dimensions of performing and visual arts. It is the goal of the organizers to make this an annual festival that people look forward to when the month of MARCH comes.

How is the event funded?
The event is operated by IDKATI PRODUCTIONS, TURF CLOTHING CO., AND MIDWEST RECORDS with primary sources of funding obtained through revenue from admission tickets and partnership with GUILLY’s A-venue. The MARCH MADNESS: CULTURE CLASH event receives no governmental funds.

What do tickets offer?
Tickets provide admission and a free beer/drink to the event. A minimal charge of 150 Pesos per ticket offers individuals and groups of friends the opportunity to enjoy a night of top rate musical entertainment from established and avant-garde artists from the HIP-HOP and ROCK music scenes at a relatively low cost. There is an opportunity for them to win premium items and gift certificates from sponsors, and even be featured on a website or an on air show. Tickets may be purchased at the entrance of GUILLY’S A-venue.

Who benefits from the event?
MARCH MADNESS: CULTURE CLASH aims to create an avenue for musicians to not only play but offer knowledge and their wares. By hold the event at GUILLY’s, it will create name recall. Like how FETE le MUSIQ, TERNO INFERNO, and the provocative FOAM PARTIES did for MALATE, SAGUIJO, and the popular clubs in MAKATI and ABG’s during their hay days. A portion of the proceeds are used to cover expenses such as equipment rental, decorations, multimedia advertisements, documentation and promotions. Remaining proceeds are given the artists as honorarium for participating in the event. MARCH MADNESS: CULTURE CLASH is staffed by volunteers.
